As you can see they are very similar. The first thing you will note is that the cradle rear legs are not even. The left leg is much thinner than the right and are rounded at the top. If you look at the telephone to the right you will see they are equal in proportion and are a quality moulding.

The next thing to note is the information under the handset on the copy is marked PL'35 GPO - No164 234 in an oval. This information is raised and should be sunk in. Very often it is polished out or very faint.

As you can see the mouthpiece is also different. You will notice that the collar is wider and the copy has an overlapping location rather than the angled one on the genuine.

See Bob Freshwaters fantastic site for more information relating to this subject.

You will note that all the non plastic parts are taken from genuine telephones of the period. The copies usually have brown braided cords but I have noticed many are now having the correct colours fitted. These copies are not being manufactured now, but there are many hundreds in the market place ready to fool you in both Red and Green.

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE IS NOT TO PURCHASE THESE ITEMS WITHOUT SEEING THEM IN THE FLESH FIRST. GET A RECOMMENDATION OF AN HONEST DEALER AND PAY A PREMIUM FOR PEACE OF MIND. IT WILL BE CHEAPER IN THE LONG RUN.
